What, in your professional and personal experience, distinguishes you from your opponents and makes you the best candidate for this position? (400 character limit)
I was a member of East Lake Fire Rescue of 27 1/2 years and currently am a commissioner for the past 4 years. My experience helps me by know intimately the ins and outs of the department. When the pension was originally founded I was there. I know the liabilities it can put on the taxpayers. I'm bringing insight on how to benefit the department while taking the liability off of the taxpayers.
In July, the Property Appraiser predicted any reductions in property tax revenues stemming from the pandemic-related economic downturn will likely be realized in 2022. If elected, what will you do to ensure the Fire District is prepared to maintain high quality service given the uncertainty in future funding levels? (400 character limit)
The commission regularly approves a budget to put money in reserve. Our Firefighter/Paramedics are the best anywhere. I worked with many of them for years. Our equipment if of high quality. I believe we are prepared, just as we were during the housing bubble which caused the last economic downfall.
Extreme weather and sea level rise are increasing the need for disaster response services while at the same time adding to the risks first responders face. How should this be addressed? What, if any, additional funding is needed? (400 character limit)
Short of a direct hit by a hurricane I believe East Lake Fire Rescue has prepared with equipment and training to address the needs of it's citizens. Again I say they are the top of the pack! They are well prepared, I know as I personally trained with them.
Is the Fire District adequately prepared, trained, and supplied with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other necessary resources to manage the COVID-19 crisis and other similar situations? If not, what is needed? (400 character limit)
East Lake has the best E.M.S. & Training Officer in Pinellas County if not the entire state of Florida in my opinion. If the men and women need something for their safety he makes sure that they have it available.
What are the top issues and/or unique challenges facing this district? If elected, what specific actions will you take to address these issues/challenges? (400 character limit)
Continuing with our employees as the best qualified and having the best compensation/benefits for their work and dedication to the community. This needs to balanced without increasing the tax liability that is put on the citizens. I propose our next Chief be non-pensionable. With being well compensated & a 401K - liability to citizens of future pension payments are eliminated for this position.
