All candidates in this race were asked the same questions by the League of Women Voters.
What, in your professional and personal experience, distinguishes you from your opponents and makes you the best candidate for this position? (400 character limit)
The firefighters, their local union, along with the organization at the state level (FPF) Florida Professional Firefighters, are endorsing me. My goal is to make decisions that will support the firefighters and the community they serve. My professional experience is over 20 years with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. I have a reputation for being an honest, no nonsense person.
In July, the Property Appraiser predicted any reductions in property tax revenues stemming from the pandemic-related economic downturn will likely be realized in 2022. If elected, what will you do to ensure the Fire District is prepared to maintain high quality service given the uncertainty in future funding levels? (400 character limit)
We, as a board, can be aware of the possibility and make budget decisions with that in mind. We can also be sure to maintain a healthy reserve.
Extreme weather and sea level rise are increasing the need for disaster response services while at the same time adding to the risks first responders face. How should this be addressed? What, if any, additional funding is needed? (400 character limit)
Our fire district is inland. Therefore, it is not directly effected by these issues like the districts which cover coastlines.
Is the Fire District adequately prepared, trained, and supplied with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other necessary resources to manage the COVID-19 crisis and other similar situations? If not, what is needed? (400 character limit)
I know they have been following all protocols. They have policies and procedures in place. To my knowledge, they are receiving some Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) assistance from the county.
What are the top issues and/or unique challenges facing this district? If elected, what specific actions will you take to address these issues/challenges? (400 character limit)
Much of the East Lake/Tarpon Special Fire Control District borders the Brooker Creek Preserve. As a result, it is essential to maintain open lines of communication and maintain the ongoing collaboration with the Forestry Dept. regarding controlled burns and any issues that could impact the community. They may also sometimes have the need to acquire additional equipment and/or training.
