Why are you the best candidate to occupy this seat? Do you intend to seek re-election when the seat is up again in 2021? (400 character limit)
My civic and professional experience listed above is well-suited for this role. I'm an Oldsmar native and I'm dedicated to making my hometown the best small city in America. My goal is to make our city and residents more connected than ever before. Developing downtown, expanding our trail system and increasing sustainability will achieve this. I do intend to seek re-election in 2021 if successful.
One of the 2020 goals set by the Oldsmar City Council is to develop the downtown corridor. What is your vision for downtown and what resources will it take to make it happen? (400 character limit)
My vision is to create a vibe that jives with Oldsmar. I want to see local cafes, shops and restaurants thriving in an area surrounded by a mix of greenery and art. As leaders, we can work to attract and incentivize businesses to come to Downtown Oldsmar. We will guide natural growth and not force rapid development. It will take time and effort working with new businesses to make this a success.
What specific actions should the council take to attract more living wage jobs, support small business and generate sustainable economic development? (400 character limit)
The council should make an effort to make local businesses aware of our new Tax Exemption program for new or expanding businesses in Oldsmar. Qualifying for the exemption is tied to bringing additional living wage jobs to Oldsmar. Very small businesses may not qualify for the exemption, so Oldsmar should explore other programs to help incubate small businesses for sustainable economic development.
How well do you feel the City of Oldsmar handles traffic control and the issue of transportation? What more should the City do, both on its own and with other county and state agencies, to create a sufficiently funded transit plan that will meet the needs of residents in the coming years? (400 character limit)
The city can improve on traffic control and transportation issues. We will work with Community Policing Officers to ensure consistent enforcement of trouble areas for speeding. We will coordinate with the County and FDOT to ensure that our roads are properly maintained in addition to securing funding for future projects. Creating a master plan for multi-modal transportation options is a necessity.
What is your assessment of Oldsmar's financial health/stability as it relates to revenue, expenses and debt? What actions will you take to ensure that the town remains on a firm financial footing? (400 character limit)
The financial health is very good and will improve as the City negotiates downtown development. We will see increased tax revenue on top of the proceeds for the sale of land. We serve to be stewards of our citizens tax dollars and I will ensure that taxes and expenses are fair and just. I will be aggressive on seeking outside funding from the county, state and federal level for additional support.
What are your top two priorities for the city? What actions will you take to address each priority within your first six months in office? (Your response may expand on a previous answer or relate to a new topic) (400 character limit)
My first priority is to increase outreach to our voters about our Downtown project. Their input is essential to achieve something all residents can be proud of. I don't want a development that residents won't enjoy. I will also work with businesses to increase interest in coming to Downtown. Secondly, I plan to support the creation of a Neighborhood Coalition to help connect all our neighborhoods.
