Why are you the best candidate to occupy this seat? Do you intend to seek re-election when the seat is up again in 2021? (400 character limit)
Passion, Wisdom, Experience! As a lifelong member of the Oldsmar and Upper Tampa Bay region, I have witnessed the changes over 5 decades and I bring a perspective that encompasses a knowledge of the past, an awareness of the present and guiding hand to the future. As a multiple award winning Business Leader I have led through booms & busts, I am the most qualified candidate on the ballot.
One of the 2020 goals set by the Oldsmar City Council is to develop the downtown corridor. What is your vision for downtown and what resources will it take to make it happen? (400 character limit)
This THE principal initiative for the term of our current Mayor. My role is to assist the efforts by contributing the leadership and stewardship to make sure that we have a downtown that does more than just look good on a tourist brochure. The downtown should be; Harmonious w/the environment, enjoyable to the visitors, profitable for the business and a positive landmark for our area. EXEMPLARY!
What specific actions should the council take to attract more living wage jobs, support small business and generate sustainable economic development? (400 character limit)
More of the same! Our City is being led, (and has been led) by some great Mayor(s). We are becoming an area of destination versus a simple pass through. By establishing anchor tenants, our city will indeed present a bounty of additional business opportunities to the local merchants & service providers. The role of this council is to continue to be good stewards of the growth and prosperity.
How well do you feel the City of Oldsmar handles traffic control and the issue of transportation? What more should the City do, both on its own and with other county and state agencies, to create a sufficiently funded transit plan that will meet the needs of residents in the coming years? (400 character limit)
Logistically it is a challenge. Because we are the first landlocked access point between the Tampa/St.Pete areas, we will always face traffic pressures. The city has done a nice job with the little things such as frontage entrances and egress to alleviate some of the potential traffic snarls, but we are still faced with a rush hour challenge that is not easily met. The best thing is an open mind!
What is your assessment of Oldsmar's financial health/stability as it relates to revenue, expenses and debt? What actions will you take to ensure that the town remains on a firm financial footing? (400 character limit)
BAZZZZZINGA!!! How about it!!! This is a very solvent city and we owe it to the RESPECT granted each other by the council and City Manager(s). It is not always a dance in the park (we have a lot of them...sorry), but the end result gets it done. A better question might be, how do we continue to keep our property taxes low and values high. The answer there is more business = more visitors.
What are your top two priorities for the city? What actions will you take to address each priority within your first six months in office? (Your response may expand on a previous answer or relate to a new topic) (400 character limit)
1) To continue to guide the City and the Downtown Project. Responsible input should equal responsible outcomes! 2) VETERANS AND SENIORS- I would love to see us get a permanent VFW post for our Veterans and I have already begun turning over rocks looking for a potential post. Seniors- They MUST be included in the visions of the Oldsmar of tomorrow. After all, we become them some day...don't we?
