All candidates in this race were asked the same questions by the League of Women Voters.
Why are you the best candidate to occupy this seat? Do you intend to seek re-election when the seat is up again in 2021? (400 character limit)
I am the best candidate because of my platform’s focus and my unique set of skills. My goal is building strong families in Oldsmar through programs that educate parents and children and promote meaningful connections to the community. I am a Ph.D. psychologist, an educator, a parent. I actively listen and I work to better people’s lives for a living. I absolutely will seek re-election in 2021.
One of the 2020 goals set by the Oldsmar City Council is to develop the downtown corridor. What is your vision for downtown and what resources will it take to make it happen? (400 character limit)
Of course I would enjoy a downtown area to experience with my family that includes a mix of restaurants, shops, and business offerings. Our residents should have input regarding what goes into downtown and financial resources should not be funneled to downtown development to the exclusion of other important programs. I would love to see a space designated for the enjoyment of the performing arts!
What specific actions should the council take to attract more living wage jobs, support small business and generate sustainable economic development? (400 character limit)
Being sensible about selecting businesses is key in being able to offer a range of job opportunities and a variety of businesses for residents to support. We must offer competitive wages and resources to our fire department and other support personnel so that they are able to attract and retain quality employees. It’s essential that the support services grow in concert with economic development.
How well do you feel the City of Oldsmar handles traffic control and the issue of transportation? What more should the City do, both on its own and with other county and state agencies, to create a sufficiently funded transit plan that will meet the needs of residents in the coming years? (400 character limit)
I feel the City does a good job of facilitating safe and efficient traffic flow. I would like to see traffic lights added at intersections that pose danger (e.g., Commerce Blvd/Tampa Rd). I support providing safer access across Tampa Rd for pedestrians, cyclists and golf carts if fiscally reasonable and valued by residents. I applaud the City's efforts in providing electric car charging stations.
What is your assessment of Oldsmar's financial health/stability as it relates to revenue, expenses and debt? What actions will you take to ensure that the town remains on a firm financial footing? (400 character limit)
Our City is fiscally strong with sound plans to decrease debt and promote revenue growth. To ensure this continues, I will aim to fully understand all sides of each fiscal request so that I may contribute responsibly to decision-making that affects the City long-term. City officials are stewards of the tax payers’ dollars and must make well informed decisions that reflect citizens’ values.
What are your top two priorities for the city? What actions will you take to address each priority within your first six months in office? (Your response may expand on a previous answer or relate to a new topic) (400 character limit)
I will increase opportunities for families to grow and prosper socially and emotionally. More connection needs to be felt among residents, young and old, to each other and the community. We have great family leisure activities but to get kids more involved in service and to offer support/education to parents is imperative, too. Creating a Family Citizen’s Academy and Kids Council are aims of mine!
