The League of Women Voters (LWV) is a nonpartisan national organization whose purpose is to promote informed, active participation in government, increase understanding of public policy issues and influence public policy through education and advocacy. Since its inception, the LWV has never endorsed or opposed political parties or candidates.
The League of Women Voters US formed in 1920 when women won the right to vote by passage of the 19th amendment to the US Constitution. Its mission was to educate the newly enfranchised women voters and help them make informed ballot choices. In 1939, three Florida Leagues (Winter Park, Winter Haven and St. Petersburg) joined together to create the League of Women Voters of Florida (LWVFL).
For nearly 80 years, the LWVFL and your local Leagues have carried out that mission by producing nonpartisan election information for voters. In 2018, we re-launched our a new and improved Pinellas County Voter Guide to help you learn about the candidates and issues on your ballot! We’ll continue to update this guide with information about candidates and ballot measures for the 2019 St. Petersburg Primary Elections and the 2020 Primary and General elections.
The Leagues of Women Voters of the St. Petersburg Area and North Pinellas County support the services of the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections by offering voter registration at organizational meetings, community events, residential living communities, and other venues. The League also conducts candidate forums prior to each election. If you’re interested in hosting one, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
